Jemma, Cambridge:

"It was hugely reassuring to know that Caroline would come at any time and when I went into labour at night, I think that it helped us feel a lot less alone and nervous to know that she was on her way. It was a huge help to have the continuity of our little ‘team’ from when Caroline arrived at our home, through the drive to the hospital, during the labour through the night, the birth of our daughter which was wonderful, and then when I ran into difficulties (after the birth), Caroline stayed with David and the baby while I was in theatre. I really couldn’t have wished for a ‘better’ labour and I attribute that partly to being able to stay focused and relatively calm, knowing that Caroline was fighting our corner, keeping the peace and making sure we looked after ourselves and each other in the ways we had hoped for. Having that experience of birth makes all the difference to me when I look back at that time and I think helped me to get through the hours in theatre and the recovery afterwards."

Julia, Newmarket:

"Both David and I feel we have gained two friends in Maddie (a doula I worked with for this birth) and Caroline. It is a very special bond and there is no doubt their support helped to make the process of pregnancy and labour very special and positive experiences. I look back on those hours with a smile – not with the horror that so many women speak of. It was almost a sisterhood rite of passage and I feel very lucky that they were there. My husband David also found their support integral and it meant he could relax and enjoy the birth without feeling afraid."

Sally, Saffron Walden:

"Caroline was incredibly supportive during labour. She came to our house and helped with everything, from timing contractions and advising us when to go to the hospital to helping us to stay calm and distracting our toddler when he came into the room during a contraction.

At the hospital she helped with practical things like getting drinks, creating a calm atmosphere in the room, second guessing things that we might need, and provided massage during contractions, invaluable help with breathing and the kind of encouragement and reassurance that made all the difference to me psychologically."

Helen, Cambridge:

"I would like to say a big, big thank you for the wonderful job you did for me. The massage on the back was brilliant and just being there for me meant everything.

Rachel, Cambridge:

"I don't think I can ever thank you enough for helping me to acheive a happy atmosphere in our home during baby M's first months. It would not have been the same without you and I'm so grateful than I have been able to enjoy these last few months rather than endure them! And I feel so lucky that I found someone we all got on so well with, and who was able to put up with the constant chaos and occasional tantrums, always with a smile!"
